Who we are

The ACI Ottawa Student Chapter is a student group at the University of Ottawa, affiliated with the American Concrete Institute. The site is run by the chapter executive. You can reach us at acichapter@uottawa.ca.

What this site collects

Nothing, unless you fill in one of three forms. There is no account to create and no login for visitors. The three forms are:

Membership application

Your name, uOttawa email address, program, year of study, the areas of interest you tick, and how you heard about us. Program, year, interests, and referral are optional — the form will submit without them.

Contact form

Your name, email address, the reason you picked from the dropdown, and your message.

Newsletter signup

Your email address. That is the only field.

Each form also carries a hidden anti-spam field. It is not information about you — it is a trap for automated submissions, and a real person leaves it empty without noticing it exists.

Where it goes

Straight to the chapter inbox as an email, and nowhere else. The website does not save form submissions to its own database — once the email is sent, the site has kept no copy. So your application lives in an inbox that the chapter executive reads, in the same way an email you had written yourself would.

Along the way it passes through the university’s email system and our web host, both of which can technically see it. Our web host also keeps ordinary server logs, which typically record IP addresses and the pages requested. We do not read those logs as a matter of routine.

How long we keep it

For as long as it is useful to the chapter — through the academic year you applied in, and usually into the next one so that the incoming executive knows who its members are. If you would rather we delete your details sooner, email us and we will.

What we don’t do

• No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager, and no visitor-tracking script of any kind on this site.
• No tracking cookies. The site sets no cookies for visitors. WordPress sets a session cookie for logged-in administrators only.
• No third-party embeds. No YouTube or Vimeo players, no embedded maps, no social widgets — so no other company is handed your visit.
• No external fonts. Our typefaces are served from this site’s own server, not from Google Fonts, so your browser makes no request to a font provider.
• No advertising, no profiling, and no selling or sharing of your details with anyone outside the chapter.

Our LinkedIn and Instagram links are ordinary links. Following one takes you to that company’s site, where its own privacy policy applies and ours stops.

Asking to see or delete your information

Email acichapter@uottawa.ca and ask. You can ask what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask to come off the newsletter list. There is no form to fill in and you do not need to give a reason.

Photographs

We publish photographs from seminars, site visits, and competitions, and members are recognisable in them. If you appear in a photo on this site and would prefer not to, tell us which one and we will take it down.

Changes to this page

If how we handle information changes, we will update this page. It carries a status line at the top so you can see when it was last looked at.
